At Eli Lilly and Company, we value partnerships.            Our history has proven—and our ongoing collaborations continue to prove—that by working together, we can discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines that will help people live longer, healthier and more active lives.

Our Approach

Collaborative: We seek the best ideas, capabilities and research available, whatever the source. Having excellent in-house talent and resources is one of the pillars of our research and development (R&D) success, but at the same time, we’re excited about the opportunities that exist to collaborate. Great work is being done in all corners of the world and in multiple settings. Our goal is to find it, advance it and put it to work for the patients who need it.

Globally Networked: Our partnering strategy is consistent with what we all know about today’s marketplace: no one can settle for business as usual, and no one company can go it alone. Within a globally networked structure, we’re teaming up to access innovation and capabilities, reduce costs, market products, manage risk and accelerate productivity. We’re focused on leveraging external compound innovation, capacity, capabilities and partnerships around the world.

Focused: We think the best way to establish a relationship is through a clear, straightforward process that enables us to respond rapidly and efficiently to potential partnering opportunities. And as the first pharmaceutical company to establish a dedicated office of alliance management, we continue to devote experienced teams to ensure partnership success.

Our Process

Our experience with partnerships has taught us that bringing together the right people through a transparent process is critical to successful collaboration. Our teams are focused on identifying, developing and commercializing the products and technologies that will yield improved outcomes as well as greater value for patients and partners alike.

Our approach includes three straightforward steps:

  1. Identify Opportunity
Our business area and our Global External R&D teams seek out new opportunities in all parts of the world, across a diverse set of therapeutic platforms and technologies.
  2. Negotiate Agreement
Our Corporate Business Development group has deep experience in identifying and implementing a wide range of mutually beneficial deal structures.
  3. Implement and Manage
Our Alliance Management professionals set goals, facilitate open communication and keep the patnership  aligned and moving toward success.

At each stage, you’ll work closely with individuals who have deep experience in the scientific and commercial possibilities relevant to your innovative product or technology. And while our process is well-established, we also offer great flexibility when it comes to negotiation, deal structure and ongoing alliance management.
