Chief Medical Officer – Senior Vice President, Development Center of Excellence
Tim Garnett, M.D.,became senior vice president and chief medical officer of the Development Center of Excellence on November 1, 2009. The center, which becomes operational on January 1, 2010, is tasked with streamlining the development of pipeline molecules and speeding innovative medicines to patients. Since June 2008, he had served as chief medical officer and vice president of global medical regulatory and safety for Eli Lilly and Company. During his 10 years at Lilly, Garnett has served as vice president for global patient safety; global brand development leader and group medical director responsible for the development of duloxetine for incontinence, pain and depression; medical director – duloxetine SUI team; and European clinical research physician for Evista®.
Prior to joining Lilly, Garnett acquired seven years of experience, holding a variety of positions in the pharmaceutical industry in Europe with Organon Laboratories.
He qualified in medicine at St. George’s Hospital in London. Garnett practiced obstetrics and gynecology for eight years prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry and conducted clinical research into menopause, pre-menstrual tension and postmenopausal osteoporosis. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the United Kingdom, a fellow of the faculty of pharmaceutical medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and a fellow of the faculty or reproductive medicine of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He also is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine.
