Senior Vice President, Product Research and Development
William F. Heath Jr., Ph.D., is senior vice president of product research and development for Eli Lilly and Company. In this role, he has responsibility for chemical, bioproduct, analytical, pharmaceutical, drug delivery and device development. He previously served as executive director, bioproduct research and development, with responsibilities for the development and commercialization of Lilly’s bioproduct portfolio since August 2002. He is a member of the company’s senior management council.
Heath received a bachelor of science in chemistry from Indiana University and a doctorate in biochemistry from The Rockefeller University. He performed postgraduate studies in cell biology at Harvard Medical School, where he received a National Institutes of Health fellow award.
After joining Lilly in 1988, Heath held positions in discovery research, technology development, bioproduct discovery, project/portfolio management, and product development. He has made major contributions to the company’s efforts on kinase inhibitors, lead generation technologies, and protein engineering.
Heath is an author on more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and is an inventor on 44 issued patents.
