MBA Human Resources

Integrity, Excellence, and Respect for People . . . these are long-established core values that drive our behaviors and decisions throughout Lilly. These values also serve as a foundation for our HR practices.

Your work will help provide answers that matter to the patient—whether it’s helping to restructure parts of our organization to a business unit structure, working on how we can better develop our leadership talent, or assisting supervisors and employees through work-related challenges.

Our MBA human resource internship program is our primary method of recruiting full-time HR leadership talent. During your 10-week internship in Indianapolis, you’ll learn about how HR practices play a key part in shaping our business. You’ll also work through real human resource challenges that will stretch and grow you.

Lilly is dedicated to developing our people. In addition to participating in the Lilly Leadership Development Program (LLDP), you will move through several assignments as a full-time employee to learn different parts of our business in greater depth and build cross-functional relationships critical to your future leadership success.

The main goal of the project is to produce a set of key learnings and documentation that can guide future M&A implementation efforts for HR personnel.

Project Objectives

  • Learn Lilly’s approach to C&B and M&A work
  • Determine proper documentation and communication of the outcomes of a Six Sigma project on M&A implementation

How this project adds value to Lilly

In the end we should have a valuable resource to guide HR implementation activities instead of ‘reinventing the wheel’ each time a new deal is completed.

Career Development for HR Professionals

Project Overview

The HR function has been transforming to meet the changing needs of the business.  In 2010, we will implement a new integrated HR model in the US which will include leveraging shared services (i.e. HR Direct call center), and specialized teams of HR professionals focused on employee relations, account leadership, and operations.  We have begun this work, and currently have two major HR organizations in a form of this new structure already.

This intern position will focus on the development and staffing implications of this new model, with an emphasis on understanding the capabilities needed at the individual level to succeed in each of these areas, how to develop those capabilities, and what career paths would enable the right experiences.

Project Objectives

  • Identify key capabilities needed in the new line HR model
  • Define recommendations for developing capabilities
  • Identify staffing implications and build recommendations for staffing HR roles in the new model

How this project adds value to Lilly

This project will be the foundation for how we staff and prepare HR professionals to be successful in this new model.  It will ensure our employees can deliver on our core capabilities of Employee Relations, Business Support, and Leadership Development.
