All grant applications must be submitted using the online grant application process. Please register to begin the online application process. You may save your work at any point prior to submission.

You may return to complete the application at any time prior to submission by returning to your account login page.


Questions on the application will include:  

  • Information about the organization
  • Contact information
  • Amount of funding requested
  • Overview of proposed use of the funds
  • Description of the specific project or program, including measurable goals and objectives
  • Description of specific activities to meet the goals and objectives
  • Detailed budget for the program or project
  • Other sources of funds applicable to the program or project
  • Description of how the Lilly Foundation will be recognized for its support

In addition, you will be asked to provide the following documents:

  • Program or project budget using the Lilly Foundation’s budget template
  • Organization’s operating budget using the Lilly Foundation’s budget template
  • IRS determination letter
  • Organization's most recent financial statements (audited if available)
  • Board of Directors list

The following guidelines are used in evaluating the grant application:

  • Alignment with the Lilly Foundation’s specified areas of interest
  • Evidence of broad-based financial support, with an accounting of funds received from public and private sources
  • Evidence that the program or project responds to a valid need and is superior to other competing programs or projects
  • Evidence of previous program or project success or likely success in the future
  • Evidence of program or project accountability
