Lilly is committed to participating in the political process as a responsible corporate citizen to help inform the debate in the U.S. about health care and pharmaceutical innovation. Lilly operates in a highly competitive and regulated industry and therefore considers such public affairs participation necessary to fulfill our responsibility to our stakeholders.

We are pleased to have been recognized by the Center for Political Accountability as a leader for our accountability and our political disclosures. Our “Report of Political Financial Support” provides details of our Company political contributions, our memberships in organizations which also lobby and to which we contribute $50,000 a year or more, and the activities of our Political Action Committee, the Lilly PAC. The Lilly PAC Governing Board oversees all donations made by the Lilly PAC.

When engaging in lobbying efforts or making political contributions, the company complies with laws that govern such activities. In the U.S., for example, federal law prohibits corporate political contributions to candidates running for federal office. Our employees must also comply with the company’s global policies, core values, and legal obligations, which are outlined in Lilly’s ethics source document, The Red Book: Code of Business Conduct.

We have positions on a number of key issues, such as affordability, health care reform, and intellectual property, that can have an impact on the availability of medicines and on our ability to invest in innovation. We also are working hard to counter the growing threat of counterfeit drugs.
