Patient Programs

We’re committed to making life better for people, even beyond the medicines we make and the services we provide. That’s why we offer numerous patient programs, which typically focus on our core areas of expertise, including cancer, diabetes and mental illness. Through these programs, we help people improve their health, manage their disease and navigate their personal health journey.

We offer and support many programs, including:

U.S. Patient Assistance Programs

In the United States, our patient assistance programs help more than 200,000 people a year get access to Lilly medicines. The majority of our product donations are made through Lilly Cares, which serves as the umbrella program for our patient assistance efforts. These programs give patients in need access to Cymbalta®, Alimta®, Zyprexa®, CyramzaTM, Insulins, Forteo®, and many other Lilly medicines.

Lilly provides many types of scholarships. For example, over the past 15 years, the Lilly Reintegration Scholarships have assisted students living with mental illness by directing more than $4 million to cover their tuition, lab fees and books at nearly 350 schools across the United States. The program specifically benefits individuals living with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder or major depressive disorder who wish to attain a certificate or degree from an accredited institution to help them secure employment and reintegrate into society.

Tools for Healthy Living

Lilly Diabetes sponsors the Diabetes Conversations program, featuring Conversation Map™education tools, which were created by Healthy Interactions in collaboration with the International Diabetes Federation. This innovative education method uses a unique, visual approach to facilitate interactive group participation and empower people with diabetes to become actively involved in managing the disease. Since 2008, these educational tools have been made available in 38 languages and launched in more than 121 countries.

Partnerships to Improve Patient Care

We offer a number of programs and partnerships aimed at improving patient care. For example, for more than a decade we have been one of the largest providers of insulin and glucagon, educational materials, volunteers and scholarships to diabetes camps in the United States through the Lilly Camp Care Package program. We also provide camp tuition support through our partnership with the American Diabetes Association.

Helping People Manage Their Health Journeys

The Lilly Oncology On Canvas: Expressions of a Cancer Journey Art Competition and Exhibition honors the journeys people face when confronted with a cancer diagnosis. The biennial competition invites individuals diagnosed with any type of cancer—as well as their families, friends, caregivers and healthcare providers—to express, through art and narrative, the life-affirming changes that give their cancer journeys meaning. The result is a compelling art collection that provides insights into the wide range of emotions experienced by those touched by cancer. Starting in 2012, the Lilly Oncology team has used their Global Day of Service efforts to paint murals of entries submitted by patients and their families. We filmed one such special occasion, which you can view here.

Lilly Diabetes—Disney Collaboration

For children with type 1 diabetes, we have collaborated with Disney to use storytelling as a way to encourage and inspire families coping with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Launched in 2011, the collaboration offers healthcare providers and families a variety of fun and educational printed resources including a book series for younger children featuring Coco, the first Disney character with type 1 diabetes. The flagship book, Coco and Goofy’s Goofy Day, is now available in multiple languages around the world through many pediatric endocrinologist and other healthcare provider offices.
