Lilly Canada is the Canadian affiliate of Eli Lilly and Company, a medicine company turning science into care to make life better for people around the world.

Eli Lilly Canada Inc. was established in 1938, the result of a research collaboration with scientists at the University of Toronto which eventually produced the world’s first commercially available insulin.

Today, Lilly scientists harness the power of biotechnology, chemistry and genetic medicine to advance new discoveries addressing some of the world's most significant health challenges. Our work includes redefining diabetes care; treating obesity and curtailing its long-term effects; advancing the fight against Alzheimer's disease; providing solutions for debilitating immune system disorders; and transforming difficult-to-treat cancers into manageable diseases.
Across every area, we remain focused on turning breakthrough science into meaningful outcomes for people.

Lilly’s medicines save and improve lives while also supporting more sustainable health care systems by improving health outcomes, reducing the need for surgeries, hospitalizations, and extended care, and helping people to return to work sooner. We are also committed to delivering innovative clinical trials that reflect the diversity of our world and to working with partners to help ensure our medicines are accessible and affordable.

Lilly Canada built its first facility in 1946 on Danforth Road. Today, our Canadian headquarters remains in Toronto. Our downtown office keeps us close to hospitals, universities, and research facilities—to our collaborators of the past and the future. Across the country, approximately 450 employees work to bring life-changing medicines to people who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and contribute to communities through philanthropy and volunteerism.
At Lilly Canada, we are dedicated to advancing Lilly’s global mission to make life better for people by bringing scientific innovation to patients across the country. For more than 85 years, our Canadian affiliate has worked alongside researchers, health care professionals, patient organizations and governments to help translate breakthrough science into real-world impact. Whether through advancing innovative medicines, supporting clinical research, or strengthening partnerships across the health system, our focus remains the same: ensuring Canadians benefit from the next generation of life-changing discoveries and helping bring these innovations to patients in Canada as quickly as possible.”

Investments in Canada since 2020

The people who work at Lilly have dedicated our careers to making life better for people by inventing and commercializing innovative medicines. From the first stages of discovery, through the years of clinical testing, to the detailed and difficult work of securing approval to call a new molecule a medicine, our team is focused on delivering safe, effective treatments to the people who need them.
