DiversityInc No. 3 Ranking Highlights Our Inclusive Culture
Eli Lilly and Company | May 6, 2020
This week, Lilly was named No. 3 on DiversityInc’s 2020 list of Top 50 Companies for Diversity. Even better was knowing what this ranking means: that Lilly’s strategies to build a more inclusive culture set us apart. Our work to recruit, include and promote the best talent from all backgrounds is making a difference in our company, and it’s fueling the way we serve our customers.
“We know that when we embrace our differences and listen to all perspectives, we’re a stronger, more innovative company,” said Steve Fry, senior vice president for HR and diversity. “It makes us a more dynamic, engaging place to work and to build a career.”
About the recognition
Lilly’s No. 3 ranking comes after an extensive submission of data and information about systems, processes and people metrics, to share how we build diversity and inclusion into our entire business.
“This ranking is meaningful because it recognizes how committed we are about recruiting and developing top talent from all backgrounds,” said Joy Fitzgerald, vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer. “When you know you’ll be valued, welcomed, respected and heard, you can bring your best, most authentic self every day. That’s what it takes to serve the patients who depend on us.” Lilly first hit the DiversityInc Top 50 Companies list in 2011 at No. 39. We reached No. 16 in 2017, leapt to No. 6 in 2018, and landed at No. 5 in 2019.
Lilly’s commitment to D&I
We continue to build a dynamic, diverse and inclusive company by embedding these things into our leadership, systems and culture. It’s core to our business success because it fosters innovation and allows us to connect more closely with our customers. We’re focusing on three key initiatives:
Understanding our employees through research into the lived experiences of minority group members – African Americans, Asians, Latinos, LGBTQ employees – and women
Cross-cultural literacy with our Make It Safe to Thrive training and programs
Setting aspirational goals to measure our progress and hold leaders accountable
This is who we are. It’s what we do.
