Mr. Eli Lilly (grandson of the company founder, Colonel Eli Lilly)
"Research is the heart of the business, the soul of the enterprise."
Lilly scientists are at the heart of research and drug discovery, each of them empowered with unique stories of what motivates them to discover novel therapies.
While working on her Ph.D. in biophysics at Purdue University, Julie Gilmore found there were few women in the same research field. Even so, that didn’t deter her from following her path. Today, as senior director of the global scientific communications group, Gilmore combines her education and passion for clinical medicine as she leads the team tasked with translating the scientific narrative of Lilly’s medicines into stories people can understand.
But Gilmore’s passion for science reaches beyond Lilly’s doors – it’s the impact science has on people that drives her forward. That passion inspired Gilmore to travel to India in 2015 with Connecting Hearts Abroad, a Lilly program that gives employees the opportunity to volunteer in impoverished communities with a focus on improving health. Today, much like during her time as a student, Gilmore continues to follow her own path – the path of someone working to make life better for people all around the world.
