Our impact

Our goal is to create medicines that make life better

We work every day with the goal of growing our business in responsible and sustainable ways that better people’s lives and benefit society.
Our impact starts with the purpose of our business: to create medicines that make life better. We’re committed to expanding equitable access to medicines for more people around the world, and we are working to improve public health for vulnerable people living in areas with limited resources. We further aim to extend our impact by strengthening communities and addressing social issues – like social determinants of health and education – that matter to our business, employees and society.

Building on our purpose, we focus our impact efforts on five key areas

Across these areas, we set and measure challenging goals to continually improve what we do – and how we do it. We discuss those goals throughout this section and website. See Lilly's Sustainability Report for detailed information about our social impact and environmental, social and governance work.

KEY AREAS OF FOCUS

At the Heart of Our Impact Is Our Purpose

Over 71 million people count on Lilly medicines each year1. In the 150+ years we’ve been in business, we’ve developed and delivered medicines that help people get better, feel better and live better.

Dedicated to Increasing Access to Medicines

30 x 30
Improving access to quality health care for
30 million people living in resource-
limited settings, annually, by 20301
Too many people, especially the most vulnerable, lack access to the medicines and care they need. Reaching across industry boundaries, we work with leading health organisations, providers, regulators and governments to find new solutions that help address access challenges and strengthen health care systems.

We have established a comprehensive goal - Lilly 30x30 - to improve access to quality health care for 30 million people living in communities with limited resources, annually by 2030.

OUR 2030 ENVIRONMENTAL GOALS

Minimise our
environmental impact

Making medicines requires the use of valuable resources including energy, water and raw materials. We’re committed to continually improving our environmental impact across our product life cycles and supply chain. We have set new sustainability goals to reduce our emissions and waste and to continue using water responsibly and efficiently.

We’re Improving Lives and Communities

We invest our time, expertise and resources to drive social impact, with a focus on improving health, education and equity. We encourage our employees to volunteer and give in ways that advance our purpose and are meaningful to them.

Everything We Do Starts with Operating
Ethically and Responsibly

It’s who we are. It’s the foundation of how we conduct business and create positive change for people and communities, while reducing our environmental impact. The Lilly family’s core values of integrity, excellence and respect for people have guided us since the beginning, and they remain at the heart of all we do today.
