Parliament can bring all stakeholders around the table to work on Alzheimer’s, says MEP Jerković

Lilly is supportive of the European Parliament taking steps to address Alzheimer's disease (AD), a condition affecting 7 million EU citizens, by integrating it into the EU’s broader health strategies. This initiative aims to help healthcare systems overcome barriers to early and accurate diagnosis, ensure accessible care, and overcome ongoing stigma that those with AD face.

Advancements in blood biomarkers for diagnosing AD offer hope for less invasive and cost-effective solutions to AD management. However, barriers to the widespread use of biomarker testing persist, including the need for standardization, addressing cost and accessibility issues, and minimizing the psychological and financial impacts of false results.

As new blood-based diagnostic tools and therapies emerge, policymakers and researchers aim to bridge gaps in care and improve outcomes for those affected by AD across Europe. In this final article from an independent series supported by Lilly, several advocates rally for increased EU funding for AD research, focusing on early detection and diagnosis to make this a reality.
