Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion is at the core of our long-held value of respect for people.

Celebrating Our Differences. Sharing Our Success.

To solve some of the toughest challenges in medicine we need the most innovative ideas. That is why we are committed to creating and sustaining an open, inclusive and diverse environment, where everyone feels valued. Through the sharing of a diverse range of perspectives, experiences and skills, we can inspire each other to think differently, generate ideas and deliver innovative healthcare solutions.

Diversity, equity and inclusion is the bedrock of our workplace culture. For us, embracing diversity means understanding, respecting, and valuing differences, including but not limited to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other legally protected status.

From recruiting and hiring, to talent management processes and supervisor coaching, we see direct benefits when our workforce represents the customers we serve. A strong emphasis has been placed on inclusive leadership, conscious inclusion education and psychological safety to assist employees to be the best they can be and to celebrate diverse views and ideas.

At Lilly, we believe our differences continue to help us move towards being a more innovative, patient-centric company. It is our goal that every employee feels welcomed, respected, valued and heard.

Lilly Recognised as a Leader in Diversity

We’re proud that our work as has been recognised by the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion, who awarded Lilly a Silver Standard TIDE (Talent, Inclusion, Diversity Evaluation) Award for DEI excellence, to mark achievements in promoting and progressing workplace diversity, equality, inclusion and belonging.

We are thrilled that Lilly was once again named as a Leader in Diversity by the Financial Times and their research partner, Statista in the 2023/2024 Diversity Leaders list. The list was compiled from an independent survey across 16 European countries. Employees were asked about their perception of their companies' inclusivity, based on a range of aspects of diversity.

Upholding our long-held value of respect for people means that we will continue to strive towards creating a more diverse and inclusive environment at Lilly.

Employee Groups

We make sure that people who are passionate about DE&I are given the space and support to drive allyship and understanding. Our Diversity Champions bring together colleagues from many different parts of the business with a passion for diversity and inclusion, and we have five employee groups which offer strong support networks and provide the opportunity to learn about the many cultures that make up Lilly. All employees are welcome and encouraged to join.

Gender Inclusion Network works to remove obstacles that prevent women and men at Lilly from achieving their full potential by challenging attitudes and beliefs about gender.  We do this by identifying barriers, and raising awareness of individual gender bias. Our ‘Men as Allies’ program and driving gender parity are our key focus points.

ENABLE’s purpose is to create a disability-confident culture. We do this by promoting awareness, providing support, and removing barriers for people living with disabilities, impairments and long-term health conditions.  Access Lilly is our priority focus, a strategic initiative aimed at creating a barrier-free environment, both physical and digital, for all employees and customers.

LGBT+ Allies promote the equal experience, treatment and safety for Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans people everywhere Lilly operates, to enable employees to reach their full potential. Lilly is honoured to be a Global Stonewall Champion. The LGBT+ Allies group supports colleagues globally through curricula, visibility items and events, enabling allyship to be shown and put into practice.

EmbRACE works to create an environment where people of colour are empowered to be their authentic selves and to foster a culture where we celebrate differences. We strive to move our business towards a culture that represents genuine inclusion because Lilly wins for its patients and communities when we utilise the strengths of all.

We partner with the Business Disability Forum to assess and improve our facilities, processes and working practices, and are members of the UK Government’s Disability Confident Scheme. This scheme works to ensure disabled people and those with long-term health conditions have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and career aspirations and is supported by our ENABLE employee group.
